As Chinese parents we paid $60-75/hour for each of our two daughters' violin and piano lessons for over 14 years. When we were doing that we did not have any doubt and thinking (眼睛都不眨). However we did not 舍得 to spend a penny on ourselves :-)
It was changed to me in 2000 when I got a free massage. I'd like to share my story with you and hope it will not be too boring :-)
Lory: I joined a startup company in 2000, which provided us 15 minutes free massage once a week, Our massage lady Lory, was a very nice, fit and pretty lady with blond hair. With 12 hours sitting with the computer everyday, I felt so good every time after only 15 minutes massage. Not very long, the company canceled the program. But I had become her loyal client. I went to see her 1 hour every month at my lunch time till I left that company in 2002.
Creig : When I came back to my original company before startup. I found there was a massage Chair too. 15 minutes for $15 once a week. I was so happy to join the program, instead of doing 15 minutes, I always booked 30 minutes. The massage therapist Creig was a very nice guy with very deep massage on the body. He mainly worked on my back, most of time, after 10 minutes, I would fall to sleep...:-) I enjoyed his massage too. He has his own clinic in Allston:
Dr Cheng and Huang Yu: In 2008, I got a frozen shoulder, I went to see Dr Cheng, a professional massage therapist in Arlington. Dr Cheng came from China. I went to Dr Cheng's treatments for more than 10 times. He is really good, He explained to me which muscle I had the problem, why I felt so painful, etc. His treatment helped me a lot. Later he introduced me to Huang Yu, a wonderful acupuncturist, with both of them treatments, my shoulder got recovered 90%. Laura: In early 2010, I met my current massage therapist Laura Greene in Wakefield. Laura came from Brazil, she is tall with full energy. She has a lot of medical backgrounds, like a professor in a nurse school. I love Laura not only because of her professional massage techniques, but also her big heart to help others. I went to see her the first time because I had a neck pain. I told her that I suspected maybe I got a lymph node cancer on my neck (by joking). She examined me and said, it's caused by the muscles! She used her 绝活 to fix my neck in the first treatment! From then on, it did not pain unless I was too intense or working too long. But as soon as I went to see her, the pain would be gone. She has a special electric massage bed, before she is working on me, I always first lies down the bed for enjoy 30 minutes whole spine massage by machine with warm temperature. I like it because it will first make my whole body blood circulate well and make her massage more effective.
Laura takes classes in Massage school in Acton now. It's only $25 for one hour massage there, mainly by students there. She is the most "required" massage lady there. But her practise training will be end at the end of January.

Mr Yang: I'd like to introduce Mr Yang to you here. Mr Yang is doing QiGong massage. He worked in Japan for many years and helped so many people there. From 2005 to 2008 for 3 years, Mr Yang had been to my house to do the massage for my mother who walked very hard because of brain cancer. Kevin: Recently my friend Ivy, the owner of 逸康美容中心（ http://www.a2zbizonline.com/ClubThermaeSalon.html） introduced me to meet Kevin。 He came from China and learned Shao Lin qiGong. His treatment is combined with Chinese and western ways of 全息，气功，指压，和按摩 4 parts togethe. I could tell that he did not use his effort like other massage therapist does ---with deep press, but some places I felt so painful. After one hour his treatment, I felt my head is so clear, the body is so light, I guess that's because many places have been "通“ by his treatment :-) So his massage reaches the result where the acupuncture treatment can do. Immediately, I introduced Laura to Kevin, and she did 80 minutes treatment with Kevin. She said, even though she felt so "painful" during the treatment, she felt so good after that. I asked Kevin about it, he said he did not use "deep pressure" on her at all, the pain was from her 不通in her body!. Now Kevin works at Ivy's salon in Chinatown.
